The Birth of Watermelon Leggings: A Story of Design Inspiration

At that time, based on customer demand for leggings that enhance the appearance of the buttocks, we began to think about how to create a pair of leggings that stood out from the crowd. This was a challenging thought process because the market was already flooded with butt-lifting leggings. We needed to design a pair of leggings that would highlight the buttocks to the fullest extent without being overly flashy.

One day in early September 2021, the designer happened to see a watermelon. The deep green and light green stripes on the watermelon rind created a visual expansion effect. Suddenly, he had a flash of inspiration: could we incorporate patterns similar to those on a watermelon into leggings to create a visual effect that accentuates the buttocks?

The journey from inspiration to product realization was both painful and joyful. Initially, we completely adopted the watermelon’s deep and light green stripes for our design. However, the resulting effect was exaggerated and awkward. The designer believed no one would want to wear such conspicuous leggings in public. To mitigate this awkwardness, we added some light-colored dots to the stripes, but it still didn’t achieve the desired effect. Each iteration revealed unsatisfactory results, but also sparked new ideas for improvement. After more than 20 sample revisions, we finally settled on dot-patterned stripes as the core design element, which retained the visual expansion effect while offering a more natural and elegant look.

During the development process, we also continuously adjusted the fit to achieve a perfect balance between aesthetics and comfort. By November 2021, we finalized the design of the Watermelon Legging, and by the end of January 2022, the first product under ROAD TO RESHAPE brand was officially launched.

Over the next two years, we expanded the classic elements of the Watermelon leggings into a series of products, including shorts, bike shorts, capris, and sports bras, all of which were well-received by our customers. In the upcoming FW24 collection, we will be introducing a new masterpiece: the Watermelon Flared Legging. We look forward to the outstanding performance of this product.
